Bazille and Camille (Study for "Déjeuner sur l'Herbe"), 1865

Creator
Claude Monet
Categories
Art, Art > Painting

Monet began by performing a series of small studies on nature, and then composed a very sketch in the workshop. The most notable difference between the sketch and the final canvas consists in replacing the beardless young man seated on the tablecloth by a sturdy fellow who bears a striking resemblance to Courbet.
